The objective of this study is to explore the
scientific roots of mathematics education as mil as
demonstrate how mathematics education can be
classified as a discipline. A study can be classif ed
as a discipline if it has (1) object(s) of study, (2)
systematics, and (3) scientific methods. The object
of study in mathematics education can be divited
into three groups: (1) mathematics as the subject
content with all its characteristics, (2) the subject of
education (teacher and learner) and (3) the
mathematics education technology. The interch
of the three objects of study will require as well
result in more advanced, systematic, precise as well
as argumentative studies. Moreover, the dynaff,
of the study will also lead to the development of
mathematics education in terms of its sy sternal cs,
methods as well as object of studies. Thus, it
be seen that mathematics education has the nqui td
object(s) of study, systematics as well as scient 'fie
methods to be classified as a discipline.
